Youth Animal Advocate on Ellen Degeneres
19 October 2009Our Pal’s Place often talks about education being critical to resolving current animal welfare issues and, for this reason, why we have a youth volunteer program and offer Camp O.P.P. We are thrilled to share some exciting news about one of our youth volunteers who has proven herself to be an animal advocate and, as a result, will appear on the Ellen Degeneres show on Thursday! Here is the email we received from Annabelle’s mother, Heather….
Hi friends and family!!!!
As some of you know, we received a call a week and a half ago from the Ellen Degeneres show. Belle has been writing Ellen for the last year about her dog treat business with the thought that if Ellen bought a bag, she could put that on her flyers and sell more treats for OPP. Well, one thing has led to another and after phone calls and videos and pictures and smiles and tears, our Annabelle is going to be on the Ellen Degeneres show talking about her business and Our Pal’s Place!!! News has been posted on Ellen’s website, so we assume it is ok to tell family and friends now. J She will be on Thursday’s show, so tivo it. J Belle has said she still hopes Ellen buys a bag of treats because one bag is a little more money for the dogs and that is what it is all about. SO PROUD!!!

Today I’m going to introduce you to a 10-year-old girl who is already making an impact on the world. Her name is ANNABELLE HELD, and she started a dog treat business — but instead of keeping the profits, she donates them to an animal shelter in her hometown of Marietta, Georgia!
Ellen airs in Atlanta on WXIA, Channel 11, at 4pm. We hope you’ll watch or visit our website Thursday evening to see the video.
We have always been so proud of and grateful for Annabelle’s tenacious advocacy for the animals and all that she has accomplished through her volunteer work and business! Annabelle helped fund Dixie’s eye surgery with proceeds from her dog treat sales last year and, in total, has donated almost $900 to the animals of OPP. Now she will be a role model for youth animal advocates on national t.v.!
If you would like to post a message to Annabelle, please do so as we celebrate her success!

Annabelle sounds like a spectacular
young lady. Kudos to her parents for encouraging her love of animals, helping her with her entreprenuerial spirit, showing that volunteerism
makes a difference, and letting her know that persistence pays off.

Bett taped the show so I could see it last night….Belle, you did beautifully on the show, and you greatly deserve this moment in the sun. You’ve certainly inspired not just me to do more and better…you’ve now inspired MILLIONS, and you can know that the impact of your appearance has served to educate so many people and will benefit countless animals even far beyond the reach and knowledge of OPP. We should all be very proud and motivated. AND BIG THANKS TO ELLEN for such generosity in so many many ways!!! As we would say in New Orleans, “Yeaux Geaux, Girls!!!”
